National Charity League, Inc. is a sponsorship organization, which means you need to be sponsored by a current member of the Chapter you wish to join. Participation in NCL requires a substantial commitment, so your sponsor will ensure you understand the service, attendance and financial obligations of membership in the Chapter. While the membership drive timeline differs from Chapter to Chapter, the process usually begins in the fall prior to the year you join. So, if you wish to start at the beginning of the NCL program, you need to secure a sponsor by the fall of your daughter’s 6th grade year.
NCL is designed as a small group leadership development program, so grade level classes are kept intentionally small. While all Chapters accept incoming 7th graders, some Chapters also accept incoming 8th, 9th and/or 10th graders. Class sizes and grade level availability are determined by the Chapter Board each year. When the interest in NCL membership consistently exceeds the number of grade level openings in a Chapter, NCL, Inc. evaluates the need for a new Chapter.
Find a Sponsor
If you know someone in NCL, talk to her about her Chapter’s boundaries, membership obligations and membership drive timeline. If you do not know someone in NCL, you may complete the Interest in Membership Form. We are happy to forward your completed form onto the Chapter(s) to which you are eligible to join, but understand that it is your responsibility to secure a sponsor. Securing a sponsor, applying to a Chapter and/or inquiring about membership does not guarantee membership.
Contact a Chapter
Because NCL Chapters are run by volunteers (they do not have offices or staff), Chapter contact information is not publically available. But there are a number of ways to contact your local Chapter.
- If you know someone in a Chapter you wish to join, you may ask her to connect you to her Chapter’s Membership VP.
- You may complete and submit the Interest in Membership from and the NCL headquarters staff who will forward it onto the appropriate Chapter(s).
- You may send NCL, Inc. Headquarters an email and ask the NCL staff to forward it onto the appropriate Chapter.
- You may email a specific Chapter through the “Contact Us” section of their Chapter Website. Click here to find a Chapter.
